hermitmode and self-improvement lifestyles are memes

Once you get rid of "distractions", you still have to make a life. Simply reading what you believe to be a "higher" form of media all day is just as alienating and soulless as regular consooming after a certain point, because you don't exist as a person.

Focusing on mechanical improvements like your diet or meditation or habits or whatever else is missing the forest for the trees. If these things don't help you actually live as a person and have meaningful interactions with others or make decisions that have consequences, it's quite pointless and you'll be back to square one in no time.

Wanting to ditch a smartphone for a dumbphone or worse still, a limited smartphone marketed for this purpose is probably the funniest symptom of this distorted thinking. Instead of addressing the fundamental problem (lack of direction, initiative, and self-control), you opt for something easy to control (a purchase) that merely works as a band aid, and robs you of a tool that could actually reduce the clutter in your life or help you take advantage of some of the beautiful aspects that life has to offer.
