Dunno if it’s really a philosophy book per say, but pic related is a pretty easy text if you want a basic understanding of stoic philosophy

How important is it to go in order with philosophy? I've started off reading the Nicomachean Ethics, but I want to move into Stoicism after this. Would it be okay if I continued with the Greeks while reading other Stoic works, or finishing Stoicism then coming back?

why cant i apply anything i learned and read on myself and my daily life? is who i am forever deeply engraved by my genetics, education and enviroment? was it naive to believe reading a stoic book would turn me into a stoic?

what can I gain from meditations if im already christian with philosophical inclinations?

>don't enjoy song and dance because they are frivolous and can be reduced to sounds and movements
>reduce everything down to it's component parts to remove joy from them because any joy that isn't from your own virtue is bad
>the universe has a plan for you and meaning don't ask me to back this up it just does ok so be happy with your shit life

Overhyped garbage. It's just the same repeated shit about being virtuous and rational about everything and avoiding passion like I'm some fucking vulcan. None of the points are backed up by anything. He makes out fun like it's evil and then goes on about how the most fulfilling thing is to be rational and ask dispassionately about everything. And all this shit about "acting in accordance with nature". What the fuck does that even mean? Isn't my nature to do what the fuck I want, what comes naturally to me? This was the least inspiring thing I've read in ages. I don't know where these people are coming from saying this book changed their lives and improved them. I just found it to be a boring, repetitive notebook kept by a monotonous idiot

Because there is LITERALLY no reason to spend your time reading books if you have the classics with you and a few masterpieces of dead authors. Everything becomes superfluous after a point. Reading will not pay the bills, nor make your life any easier, nor even give you a way to cope, which at least stoic philosophy attempts to do.

What are some god tire self-help books when it comes to habbits, discipline and routines? I love pic related, but it's more of a general moral compass to life. I want to read something a bit more straight to the case. This and this is what you need to live a more disciplined life. I'm not necessarily looking for some "formula for success/riches" BS and i'm already doing quite well and structured on my own (studies with ok grades, work etc.) I just wanna take it to the next level in terms of self discipline and daily routines - preferably have it all mapped out. I have literally no experience with self-help books, i only know it's a lot of bullshit out there.

I was at the book store looking for books to learn about Stoicism, and I accidently confused Aurelius with Epicurus and ended up buying pic related.

I'm 15 pages in and so far it seems kinda... Peterson-ish. Is a decent book to learn about Stoic thought at all?

Just been dumped for being an immature manchild, currently re-evaluating my life completely so this never happens again.

Will pic related make me more of a man than the average, or just get me up to speed and be able to do things that come naturally to them?

This: it's by one of the greatest emperors of Rome. Try to find the Greg Hays translation if possible, there are some other good translations but there's many more poor ones.
