The moment something promotes or urges violence, it becomes something that can't be protected by freedom of speech. Just like how bombthreats aren't protected under freedom of speech. We don't live under true democracy because of this, and it never will be true democracy.

That being said, I can see why some people complain about it. If this control over free speech is overdone it will eventually lead to heavy censorship and loss of any Democracy, like China in the moment. It's kind of a dangerous line they're meddling with, imho. Idea of ''dangerous thinking'' itself condemns diversity of opinions, which would lose any reason for democracy to even exist. I think more of libs and conservatives should observe eachother's ideology, reasoning, thought process instead of condemning a certain stance and blocking them out. Only then, will democracy actually hold a meaning.
