When I was in HS, everyone had this huge boner for Holden.

>He's protecting Phoebe's innocence!
>He's just a kid who's trying to figure it out!
>He has a point!
>Why does nobody unnerstan him!

I was probably the only person in the class that hated him as a character. It didn't even occur to me until recently that all his talk about phonies was about himself. He was a phony, a front, for nothing. He wasn't a genuine dude, he was posing for his own image and his semblance of self confidence.

I mean, that's just a basic reading. How come my teacher never told my classmates to shut the fuck up and not be dipshits?

That being said, I dressed up as Caulfield for a costume party. I know what it's like to be him, hating everything but really not having anything in yourself to back up your own worthless musings.

Hate me if you want, but I didn't really like the entire concept of Tommy B. I get that he was kind of a fun dude that rhymed and feasted and was overall a great guy, but I found the passage annoying and really out of place considering the proximity to the barrow wights.

>suicide is the best move you can make
Now at this point you're assigning value to something that has none. Nothing does. It doesn't matter.

At the same time, while living doesn't contain value from the philosophical standpoint, one can realize some sort of value from their brain's chemical makeup and give to your body that which it naturally assigns value, namely, the products of hedonism and the mental wellbeing of yourself and others. Acknowledging that we're just flesh containers with chemical responses is liberating and allows you to observe your own body's reactions to what is possible in life.

Suicide reduces your life's value to zero. Being a flesh machine raises it to whatever your nerves claim it to be.

Life's an opportunity to do cool and fun things, regardless of whether you believe in an afterlife or not. Speculation on this ultimately doesn't matter, since the presence/absence of an afterlife is set.

I don't know what you see in this OP. Looks pretty vanilla to me.

>made you audibly laugh out loud
Not sure I had any. I haven't really delved into written comedy, though National Lampoon's Hunger Games parody was decent. Katpiss and Pita.
>made you cry
Where The Red Fern Grows, by far. It never fails to make me bawl by the end.
>made you fap
One time I was on vacation and I found a book that read like an insane mix between a 70's porno and a Tarantino film. Lots of sex, a couple scenes of abuse. Stained sheets. I have no idea what the book's called, but I remember a chapter where the MC gets out of prison and relieves the pent up sexual desire of several years into a redhead while they both swam underwater. Weird shit.
