After having multiple people tell me how good the way of kings is I gave sanderson another chance after how bad mistborn was. I'm 1/3 through.
What do people find so great about this book? It just seems so juvenile. All the current problems seem to stem from people (in power) being ignorant retards. And the "intrigue" is on another level. wow such conflict.
the worldbuilding is deep as a puddle. Everything being crablike is an interesting idea and the gender division thing could become good as well, but because it is implemented the way it is it just seems like filler make so his book "has worldbuilding".
Why is the pacing so bad? Why is there so much repeated again and again? Why does he overexplain everything said MULTIPLE TIMES?

I was adamant on pulling through with it, thinking it surely has to get better, but I'm 1/3 done now and it just keeps getting worse with more and more chapters of Dalinar out-retarding everyone around him.

Is this worth reading, if only to see what all the hubbub is about? I feel some kind of "responsibility" to read at least one of sandy's books, even though from what I've gathered, his prose is very spare and the story is full of super powered anime characters, which is anathema to my tastes.

Was The Way of Kings really the best Sanderson had to offer? Sad, really.

So considering he just got $41.7 MILLION on kickstarter. I wanted to read some of Brandon Sandersons work to see what it was all about and I genuinely cant stand it. The dialogue and prose is awful. What the fuck. Is it just an appeal to the lowest common denominator?

...WTF? After playing Elden Ring and getting somewhat interesting in fantasy, I decided to check out Sanderson's Stormlight series. I got the idea after seeing his video announcing all the new books he secretly wrote. He seemed like a cool guy, so I gave him a shot.

But seriously, I'm about 15% done, and I'm having a hard time continuing. There are some interesting ideas for sure, but the characters and the dialogue are so cringe that it makes me stop reading. Am I just being overly critical, or does it sound like the writing of an American high school student who has no frame of reference other than his friend group? Shallan's entire personality is tasteless sarcasm that the other characters always gobble up and praise as "wisdom". And her "letter" to Jasnah was so hilariously childish and retarded that I thought it was a joke. I thought Sanderson was trying to make it sound bad intentionally, but apparently not.

It just pisses me off, because the story could be fine if someone more competent took Sanderson's ideas and rewrote the actual prose. Is this problem typical of the genre? Is there someone better I could read?

If you can't finish a story within 400,000 words, it's not good. What does he do? Decide to write 10x 400,000 word books to tell a story. It's going to finish bad. Mistborn books are less bloated and even those fall apart in the sequels.

Almost done with my first read of pic related after seeing it on here a bunch of times. I thought the first 5-7 chapters were a real slog to get through, but after that the story really picked up and by the end I was glued. So if any of you feel like dropping in the first couple chapters stick with it. That said holy fuck this book is so long. Like I don't mind a long read but this is such a time commitment I could have finished 3 books in the time it's taken to get through this. The magic system(?) is interesting and I like how it interacts with the plot for the main characters. It's not just an energy in the world, it changes and affects the world as well. I was gifted the whole Stormlight Archive set & and struggling to get through the Way of Kings. I am enjoying it however the jumps between the characters that are so far away from each other is annoying (Maybe i just do not enjoy Shallan).

Is every book in the series written this way or do the characters meet up at some point ?
