I don't know, I'm sort of convinced that Twain was a brainlet. I mean, the man hated Jane Austen, which I've always taken as the sign of a moron.

>and I might add it is leagues more popular than Austen’s other novels

This is the thing I keep coming back to. P&P is not Austen's best novel. It probably doesn't even crack the top five of her greatest works. I mean, I'll just do an offhand ranking:

1. Emma
2. Persuasion
3. Mansfield Park
4. Northanger Abbey
5. Sanditon

Like I said, this is an inexact list, but that's five novels I can think of that are better than P&P. Yet it remains the novel normies love the most. Why? I'm honestly not sure.

Jane Austen sends so many people on this board into a frothing rage because she's a woman but she's probably better than their favorite author.

Also, I would actually recommend skipping Pride and Prejudice because that's literally what everyone reads and there's so much more to her stuff than that. Read Emma and Northanger Abbey instead.

[ERROR]

I feel like Jane Austen would be disappointed that Pride & Prejudice is her most well-known novel. She doesn't seem to have considered it her best work.

Why isn't Jane Austen on this list? She's better than all of those writers. She's actually great.

Reminder that /lit/ gets triggered by one of the greatest writers in the English language purely because she's a woman.

I'll keep it classic and say Jane Austen. "Emma" is my favorite work of hers.

Should guys read books by Jane Austen, even if they are "girly" books? Why or why not? What can they learn from them?

She's a better writer than YOUR favorite writer.
