If a woman picks up a baseball bat we can all tell by the way she stands, the way she swings, the way she runs, and her inability to tell left field from right field that she's no good. When we measure her abilities to her team we can tell she's no good. When we look at her RBI we can tell she's no good.

When a woman picks up a book she can read fast or slow. She can read it cover to cover and not understand a single theme, motif, or symbol. She can read it half way and stop. She can skip as many chapters as she wants. Even if she doesn't remember a fucking thing about the plot or the characters, all she has to do is say "this book was sexist" or "the author is an old white man," and everyone in the book club will nod their head in agreement as if what she said was profound. She can have a bookshelf full of lies and failures and misinterpretations but her friends and family will look at her collection of bodice rippers and YA and fairy lights and say "wooooow you really like reading! Good for you! You're smaaaaaart!"
