Kant literally shit himself in the woods /lit/, a woman walked towards at him and he froze where he stood. Sweat rolled down his "gotcha" shaped brow, and then dripped onto his leather, moleskin Boots. He quickly imagined scenarios where the woman would just roll him up like a cigar or tuck him into bed, only for it to just dissappear into her lodgings. He wrote about the matter in a letter to his friend, David Hume: "I was trembling with the utmost fear, my mind picturing images of my childhood that came like a visceral tidal wave, in a fraction of a second I was flipped from one mood to the next. My heartrate was irratic. My brow sopping wet with sweat. I slowly meandered back to my bed with uncontrolled excrement seeping down my garments. My philosophy had achieved me nothing in the face of the ineffable sublime. I now realise that a posteriori knowledge is the only perceptible reality. "

What are the necessary philosophers one must read starting with the Greeks, if one wishes to have a deep knowledge of the history of philosophy? I think the following categories will serve quite nicely:
>pre-Socratics and Sophists
>Socrates, Socratic schools, Plato, the Old Academy, Aristotle, Peripatos
>Hellenistic philosophy
>Late Antiquity
>7th to 11th centuries (e.g. Isidore, Stephanus, Eriugena, Anselm)
>12th century (Abelard)
>13th century (St. Albertus Magnus, St. Thomas, Lull)
>14th century
>Renaissance (15th and 16th centuries)
>17th century
>18th century
>19th century
>20th century

So metaphysics is impossible. Where do you go from here? Just keep tracing back the causal chain of appearances forever? Seems pretty dismal. I want to go back to before I read the CPR

>Kant had eccentric beliefs about health and wellness. Kant wrapped himself up very tightly in his bed, and his manservant Lampe had an almost maternal relationship with him. Kant had pseudoscientific beliefs about pollutants in the air during cold weather (it would be anachronistic to refer to ‘germs’ for his understanding), and the importance of sleeping properly. Kant believed in the importance of regular and consistent sleeping patterns for reasons us moderns would perhaps disagree with. Kant believed that sleep brought us closer to death, insofar as having more time in bed led to having less time alive.

Lmfao this is literally Spinoza levels of autisimo

Imagine looking like this. No wonder he thought a priori and a posteriori knowledge was essentially two gears in the same machine, he looks like a monkeys child. I bet he would've loved listening to Miles Davis, exactly the type of music that his ethics reeks of. Kant should've met Spinoza, those two could've put spiders in a death battle together and made it look like a socially acceptable past time.

>German philosopher Immanuel Kant devised an argument from morality based on practical reason. Kant argued that the goal of humanity is to achieve perfect happiness and virtue (the summum bonum) and believed that an afterlife must exist in order for this to be possible, and that God must exist to provide this.
How could one man be so autistically coherent in his Critique of Pure Reason while holding retarded beliefs like this?

People keep posting that Kant was against reason.

He combined rationalism and empiricism for his philosophy.

What are they on about?
