I’m really not afraid of death these days. Sure, for most of my life it was my biggest fear. This changed when I entered the serious depressive block of late high school to the end of sophomore year college. The sadness and weariness just totally wiped out the old enamored- with-life me--enamored enough, anyway. Because life was so worthless, death really began to seem like a fine state to be in. I never seriously endeavored toward suicide, I would regularly fantasize about sacrificing my life in a selfless act. Like, walking home down Franklin Street, I would daydream about a little toddler wandering into the road just as a truck speeds down it, and I’d jump in and push the kid out of the way just in time to save his life, and only his, and I meet my end. I really felt like I wanted something like this to happen, but I guess the right toddler and the right truck never presented themselves to me. I wonder if I would have actually done it if the situation actually arose, or if I would have been seized by a kind of self-preservative paralysis like everyone else except, maybe, the kid’s parents. Anyway, things started to get better after sophomore year. I’m not in love with life or anything like that, but I’m fine. I wouldn’t say I’m depressed. But that fear of death from before that dark block of ennui never returned.

We are all gonna make it OP. Start with the Greeks, but make sure you mix in some stuff that interests you personally to keep you motivated. Build up your time spent reading steadily and keep challenging yourself with new and different material. And for gods sake don't spend all your precious reading time on 4chan. Godspeed

Don’t bite the meme. What these incels don’t realize is that women WANT someone with hobbies and passions. Anyone who says reading and philosophy is cope is a pseud who romanticizes the idea of reading and lacks the attention span to read more than a chapter a night.

Finally quit all social media last night and feeling so much better. I checked Twitter everyday all the time for years - followed self improvement, Maga bros, money making accounts, and 4chan dudes. Also, had Instagram and would get too much dopamine looking at girls with edited photos and makeup. Finally came to realize it's over stimulation and deleted it all. Today feeling so focused, even during my workout it felt great not checking my phone between sets.

Greetings fellow /lit/izens.

In the past 3 years I have strived to live more seriously: a life full of goodness, of self(will)-affirmation, of interpretation. I owe gratitude to this community for the discourse.

I am however finishing a bleak Bachelour (BA of European Studies), which made room for philosophy minors and optional courses, but is nonetheless quite nihil in its essence.

I was wondering, what journey does a fellow studying philosophy have? I am asking this for I wish to study philosophy more profoundly and eventually become a phil professor (I am from a coal-tier Eastern European country where I wish to instill education, but am currently studying in the West). I have dedicated some significant time to self-study and wish to go into philosophical hermeneutics (Ricoeur and Gadamer, after experiencing the upbringings of the unfathomable Neetch and Heidig).

tldr; How does /lit/ study philosophy? What academic path have you taken to practice philosophy in a specific field? (Professor, ethical advisor, PhD...)

>No, reactionaries trying to police what women do with their bodies and where people are allowed to go are the brakes on progress
lmao yeah sure man, it's the reactionaries. Read a fucking book, literally any book.
>Capitalism and free movement have countless people out of poverty. Religion and asceticism created serfdom and slavery
Oh sick I'm glad those 5yr old sweatshop workers stitching together 5 packs of $20 t shirts aren't getting fucked over by global capitalism
