There's more than one guy rating books here, and not all of us have read Ada Palmer. Is she any good? Anyway, I did look at Ubik a couple of months ago and while I enjoyed it, I thought it was flawed. There are too many needless characters, and the plotting and pacing is uneven. I wasn't surprised to hear that PKD wrote it without outlining it. He literally wrote this book while sitting at a typewriter, typing whatever occurred to him, so the book is more a product of his subconscious mind than a conventionally crafted novel. In novelistic terms, however, it didn't satisfy me. He has better books from this time: Martian Time-Slip, Dr Bloodmoney, and DADOES.

I have it on good authority that women are writing SF. Pic related.
