How much of this book is lost in translation? Will I have to learn Russian to fully get the humor and nuance?

Is it true that to truly grasp this book you need to know the intricate Soviet inside jokes of that time?
I thought it was great while only getting some of the critique of the new soviet classes.

I mean it was pretty good. The Looney Tunes magical shit was funny, and the Pontius Pilate story was kind of cool I guess. But that's pretty much all there is to it. Doesn't really seem to live up to the hype. Did this book blow anyone's mind? Why?

I just could not stand the snide boomer humor and the thought of Russian "polite" society makes me physically ill.

I was in a similar boat a few years back, I picked up The Master and Margarita and found it impossible to put down, specifically the P&V translation (pictured here). Try it out, I hope you like it.

novels are not funny. they can be amusing, but they are never truly funny. the "humor" in books like this and lit fic is very dry and understated to the point that if you had a personality like this, you would either be autistic or just a boomer and not funny.

reading "funny" novels like this inflicts psychic damage because it causes the reader to believe incorrect things, like the idea that whimsical early 20th century hijinks involving social faux pas and general (but relatively light) absurdity is funny. this belief would make you a dweeb and uphold the ancient smoothbrain stereotype that people who read too much are dweebs.

Can someone help me make sense of the ending and the Ha-Nozri storyline?

Woland's antics reminded me of life back home where state police can make evidence against anyone appear and disappear out of thing air. The same goes for disappearing people.

I also liked the fantastical Master and Margarita arc although it felt Harry Potter-like at times.

With that said, I do not understand how the two pieces fit together at all. What did he mean by this?

The Master and Margarita. I’m 30% in and enjoying it. Haven’t been introduced to the Master or Margarita get.
