Yeah, it sucks. Covenant is a really awkward attempt at psychological realism within a Neo-Tolkien setting, but it just doesn't work.
I actually feel like the setting is wasted on the character. The Land is actually pretty comfy in that attractively cliché way you find in Dragon Quest games , AD&D illustrations, or Dungeon Synth album covers.
I feel like it could have been THE generic fantasy series if it had taken a different approach.
