DFW has the habit of going off in a long tangents about minor or barely mentioned characters in the middle of prose which don't add much even to the context of the scenario but adds humanity to his work.

Which I get is like 3/4 of his shtick, but at parts of IJ it clearly went overboard and failed to add anything, to the point of being cringe or groan-worthy.

That being said I love DFW.

Would say I'm amazed at the butthurt over the 10 pages a day thing but this is /lit/. Won't be joining ya'll as I just recently finished it for the first time, wish I woulda done infinite summer, IJ is definitely a book I wish I could have discussed with people while reading.

Just finished IJ. Have also read:

I enjoyed all three although IJ took forever. Something shorter and maybe something slightly less bleak?
