Using your metaphor, I'd say it's reasonable and very human to care about the forest and the trees. The way you've phrased it, stopping to admire the pretty flowers itself does sound meaningful. And importantly that in no way contradicts and in fact enhances ant other "greater" levels of meaning we seek and hopefully find. So i dont think it's cope, both abstract and concrete sources of human flourishing have intrinsic value.
