Honestly, doesn't Land have kind of a point? Houllebecq seems to have a high awareness of both this strange "incel" phenomenon and the attractiveness of fundamentalist Islam. All of a sudden it seems really evident that he knows our current age very well.

I think about this, too, and my answer, I guess, is that you have to think of how people used to approach the Iliad, and other great works. This was before the internet, before television, before radio, before electronic entertainment of any kind. Basically the only thing people had to do to amuse themselves was read literature and go to plays.

So the idea is that, if that's all you have to do, when you have free time you'll do it a lot. You'll read the Iliad, and then you'll read it again, and then you'll read it a third time, a fourth time, a fifth time, and so on. And as you reread it you'll begin to notice things about how it's structured, what certain characters do at certain times, what the attitude of the actual poet seems to be relative to the attitudes of the individual characters.

Basically, everybody who could read used to do the same thing that only college students do today. So, if there's a broad consensus that a work from the past has a deeper meaning, it's likely based on this culture of mass close reading, and so it probably has some merit. Lots of people over centuries aren't just noticing nothing.

It is kind of interesting that Rome has, like, five different instances of ALMOST defeating the Persians, but some bullshit always stops them before they can do it.

This is a fair question. Who determines what a heretic is among Protestants? Catholics and Orthodox have their respective Churches, and the doctrines and dogma contained therein.

Was Chesterton a better essayist, philosopher, novelist, short story writer, or poet? What was he best at?

Does anybody here make good money as a tutor? My shitty part-time job is ending because the store I work in is closing. I make some money as a commercial writer, doing copywriting and editing and so on, but I need to supplement my income and was thinking of giving tutoring a try.

Was kinda dead-set to go with swords only, but lately I have been considering using guns as a support like you just said, possibly limiting ammo and stuff like that to make it even more supportive and don't steal the spotlight too much unless I really want to

The funny thing is, I usually don't waste a lot of time playing with ideas, I just jump in action, and this is just a side project, however lately I haven't progresssed at all just debating to myself whether I want to add the modernism of the guns, or keep the fantasy and purity of a sword-magic only world

As always thanks not only to you, but everyone for the answers, I read them all

Aren't reactionaries supposed to be trying to restore a previously existing societal order? Like feudalism?
Shapiro and Peterson are just conservative e-celebs that exist to keep edgy teenagers satisfied without moving them further right. Not that I think it works.

Holy shit, that's gay. Here I thought he was actually Christian.

High-quality poetry might be able to entice people to read and reread it by its beauty, drawing them in where deeper meaning could be found.

The trouble is that modern poetry lacks a really pleasing poetics. Abandoning both rhyme and meter has been very bad for poetry. Now it's all just flat and dull, like talking. Poetry was never meant to be like talking.

This universe has magic but technology, computers and stuff. One of the MCs, the most important one actually, is kinda off Batman knockoff in some way since she doesn't actually has any powers, but a lot of training and runes, spells, knowledge on how to deal with magic things.

Was just thinking because bullets and firepower seems a bit outta of place when you have Angels, Demons and everything of magical people running around.

and the MC uses a dagger for most of the time since she is very stealthy but, wouldn't just a gun with angel-killing bullets be more effective in that case? maybe I could work on those being more rare/expensive, or just doing removing technology completely from the universe.

Anyways, thanks for the answer, it actually inspired me a bit here.

But the only reason can't refute him is because he did not put forward any claims. His philosophy is exhibitive, not assertive. Deconstruction just exhibits the inability of logocentric texts to achieve presence by showing how they never achieve semiosis and by introducing alien terms within the system that they can't handle (différance, mark, trace, arche-writing, hymen, supplement, spacing, pharmakon, etc.) He acknowledges that anything he says assertively can be deconstructed.

"Thus to be truly beautiful, a thing must have an element of the mind in it's form, and indeed be a product of the mind. In this respect the beauty of nature [3d girls] exists for us as but a reflection of the beauty of mind, as a thing incomplete and imperfect in itself..."
