>You keep having to re-read just to see that you missed an important line between 4 pages of information dump.

Are you saying you don't read everything on the first read-through?

Why would you buy a book just to not read every word?

I beheld a nigger before me, closer with every snarling shieet. I shot him in his ugly ape face and quieted those feral imprecations forever. As its herpetic blood festooned the pavement and traced my steps from the scene, I knew I was entering a new world. I was now a pariah; to be hounded and killed by the very civilization that reared me fully expecting and wholly demanding I end as chimp feed. In that moment two-ton scales fell from my eyes, and I felt free as never before. I was now beyond any need to conform or compromise, I was othered and marked as I egressed from thought crime to material criminal. There was no going back, and I thanked god for that.

Why do Western translators bother writing Chinese words and names if they won't do it in Pinyin? I'm not fluent in Chinese, but it seems to me there are over a dozen ways to pronounce "Lu Kuan Chung"-- four different ways to say every vowel. We keep accents around for romance languages, and keep the umlauts for German.

I get that it can be a sort of conditional like
>if it be now, ’tis not to come
and
>it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish,
but then I'm expected to believe that it's some kind of imperative too, like
>let there be light
and
>long live the king
so basically I'm asking, what the fuck. Where is the commonality between these uses that makes them all "the subjunctive" and not like four different tenses/moods. Thanks

The more books I read the more confused I am about how to form a proper sentence. I am currently an editor on an undergraduate philosophy publication, and, in my editing, I've noticed that there are some cases where the "correctness" of a sentence is ambiguous.

e.g. "... Thus, we have shown that Smith's argument is invalid." v.s. "... Thus we have shown that Smith's argument is invalid."

I have read books that use either the former or the latter but not both.
Is there some difference in meaning between the two sentences?
Also, is the comma completely unnecessary?

ITT: we discuss English usage in literature.

I wonder about this statement, because Christian symbolism seemed to overwhelm the first book. FFS, Hagrid is called "the keeper of the keys."
