Is this, dare I say it, the most overrated book of all time?

It's literally just shock literature. Nothing but violence, blood, and action to entertain the uncultured. No different than a shitty rated-R action movie.

Am I the only one that thinks it's a bit overrated?

What did I think of it /lit/?
Unironically, really loved it. I picked up on colonialism/generally man as a destructive force and what gives a being humanity as two big things, and tangentially saw some sort of abandonment of morality with the twisting of a bunch of Biblical events. Anything I'm majorly missing out on?

Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy is a book that has been on my to-read for a very long time. Finally, I picked it up at the library -- no, it's not because I recently played "Red Dead Redemption 2 (I haven't) -- and was excited to start it, which today I did. Wow. I spent a good hour trying to read the first 15 or 20 pages. I had to keep going back to reread passages multiple times to understand what was going on. It was a good 20 minutes before I realized there was actually dialogue between characters occurring (as opposed to some weird inner or narrator dialogue) because there were no quotation marks. Hell, no apostrophes or few commas.

Maybe, I'm not terribly intelligent (despite my years of schooling) but I am struggling with this book more so than I can recall ever struggling with any other fiction novel. Am I missing something? I really want to read this book, but I cannot seem to break through his writing style.

Can someone help me out here? Any tips? Am I approaching his writing from the wrong perspective? Or should I give up and stick to John Grisham novels? (As an aside, I hate John Grisham.)

Let's be honest with ourselves. This book (Blood Meridian) is the greatest work of American fictional literature ever written.

I finished it nearly 2 months ago and I still cant stop thinking about it, cant stop trying to understand it more. Will probably read it a 2nd time through when I get a chance

im a brainlet and i want to get more into reading. i just finished pic related, but dont know where to go from here. i am not a very romantic person (in the sense of being in touch with emotions), but grand themes revolving around masculinity, religion/god or lack thereof, fathers, or humans place in the universe really resonate with me.

also if anyone wants to share their opinions or thoughts on blood meridian i enjoy discussing it as well. thanks.
