Literally Burton died just as he thought he was going to make an acting comeback, after being in Wagner and 1984.

>"When I was 27, I did 'Hamlet.' Several years later, I did it again and was able to discover all sorts of insights. I may be a late developer, just coming into my own. I've been dicing around in the acting profession for years, and it's now that I think I'm at my best as an actor. In almost every artistic career, at a certain period, there's an enormous burst of energy. Take Shakespeare - his early plays are relatively indifferent, the middle comedies begin to show his genius and then there's that tremendous burst of energy that produces the five great tragedies. Energy is so important to an actor. At first, my acting was physical. I charged into parts like a bull. Now I don't use as much energy. Experience comes into play. That's why I'm not frightened of aging."

On the topic, anyone else seen the 9 hour movie yet? Watched it a few years back and surprised it isn't more popular.

>considered one of the few roles deserving of Burton's talent
>various other great actors like
>John Gielgud
>Ralph Richardson
>Lawrence Olivier
>Vanessa Redgrave
>as well as multiple others
>was shot by the master cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, who did the cinematography for Apocalypse Now as well as The Conformist
>everything shot on scene, meaning filmed authentically to where it took place
>more than enough biographical content from Cosima's diary to be authentic to what actually happened as well
>exaggerates some of his eccentricities, but otherwise is a realistic and not criminalising portrayal
>considered a masterpiece by some, glowing reviews from everyone
>all originally conducted by Solti
>8 hours of content
>based
