Besides children and the feeble-minded, is there ANY reason for abridged fiction?

This world is getting colder and more alien by the year, especially when people who knew what was wrong with it die. Soon there will be nothing left that we recognize. Progress for the sake of progress is the Achilles Heel of the human race, and we will fall because of it.

I always wondered how old people don't get depressed looking at the modern world, especially if they grew up way back then. They just can't realise that the world has gotten astronomically worse in many ways, yet they don't really bat an eye at much of it. They probably just mutter something slightly unpleasant under their breath when they see ENTIRE youths looking down at their phones, I bet.
Hell, the ones that are still living are probably either could never recognize how shit the world was becoming over the decades, or were just content with it, I guess. All the people who weren't fine with it are either dead, in prison, or in a mental hospital.

It really is fucking over for our world, isn't it?

/tv/ is ruining this board. Can you people fuck off back to where you belong with your hyper-politicized, shit-flinging, divisive, and echo-screaming garbage?

To be more specific I believe vns need to be able to be willing to let go their shonen anime mindset

Even in the "darkest" and most "mature" vns, the ideals and ways of thinking popularized by shonen anime are still everpresent, as times despite their immense potential, vns seem almost scared to deviate to far from what is expected from a popular seasonal anime, any attempts to let go of this have so far only led to immature edgefests and shallow meta-commentary, both which are enjoyable but fail to push the medium forward

I think its far too late too separate vns from anime or porn tags that have come to represent them in popular culture, but that doesn't mean that they have subjected to infinitely applying the same tired and often simplistic mindset to every story

Despite all of the shit manga that has been published, since the early 2000's it feels like many mangakas have been able to approach stories using a different mindset than the tired shonen mindset, and I believe that medium has benefited a lot from that change, so I have faith that vns will eventually do so too with time
