The man had a sense of humor, as much as people like to say otherwise.

A friend of mine is trying to get me to read Robertson Davies. Is he any good or would I be wasting my time?

Yeah, it's really fucking depressing sometimes. I feel guilty when I have thoughts of fucking one of my friends' girlfriends.
The reality of it hit hard when my dad asks me about it. I think he half understands that I don't have the drive, commitment, or confidence to sustain or even have a relationship. He has once asked me if I was gay (one of older brothers is gay, so he thought he might have another one), and when he asks if I'm going to prom (senior in high school, for the record). It's a fucking horrible feeling and I wish that no one has to experience this.

OP, I'm not totally convinced you deserve better than what you're getting, but just about everything posted in response to you is some of the most unfortunate, plebeian bullshit I could have expected. Lovecraft is one of the most notoriously melodramatic and grossly purpled writers in history, but he's the father of the twentieth century horror story. Because the great majority of /lit/ cannot in fact read beyond an eighth grade level, they'll try to lead you to believe otherwise. Read "At the Mountains of Madness," "The Color out of Space," and "The Rats in the Walls." He's not without an ear for lyrical beauty or a sense of the kinds of teeming horror that can fester in a person's heart and mind.

It makes me feel like Lovecraft intended me to feel.

Hello, /lit/.
Does anyone know of newer books based on Arthurian Legend. Something stylistically darker and more realistic would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, /lit/, it's time to make a fighting video game starring characters from all the realms of literature. Who's leaping out of the ink and into the ring?

Some ideas:
Jake Barnes (The Sun Also Rises) - Retired airman with a serious chip on his shoulder (and penis)
Holden Caulfield -- Will take a beating and keep on pontificating
Darl Bundren (As I Lay Dying) -- Seemingly on another plane of perception and consciousness...
Quincy Morris -- The first vampire killer with a drawl
Humbert Humbert -- Eh, nevermind
Alex (A Clockwork Orange) -- Ultraviolence?
Boo Radley (To Kill a Mockingbird) -- Comes out of nowhere, then disappears
Billy Pilgrim (Slaughterhouse Five) -- Unstuck in time, knows how to fuck your eyes up
The Savage (Brave New World) -- One hell of a Shakespeare-addled mean streak
Hamlet -- This wouldn't end well
Father and Son (The Road) -- Think Ice Climbers
Johnny Rico (Starship Troopers) -- May require bugs
Gregor Samsa (The Metamorphosis) -- There we are

Who else, /lit/?

As the father of 20th Century horror, yes. Read him, and retain him.

You're still on 4chan, son. Never, ever forget that. This is thread is, in its entirety to date, a cold breath of that same clarity. Take a look.
