Honestly this. As you read you develop a familiarity with the texts and the more texts you read the more familiar you become with the style and meaning of the author. The translator/publisher usually provide usefull information as well.

You don´t read it as a novel or a textbook but as a dialogue. Think of it as an extended conversation in a movie or book between characters. The synthesis of drama and debate.

As to how I approach philosophy in general:
>Do some research
>Start reading
>If something bothers me I ignore it, usually gets explained later on
>accept everything and embrace the ideas
>finnish reading
>accept and develop/explore the idea
>possibly research
>Now that I´m sure of my understanding regarding the subject matter I begin to look for critisisms and/or look up previous things that bothered me
>mindprofit

Around the age of 12 is fairly normal. Archaic people did not have taboos around this. As soon as a woman menstruated she could begin producing children. Personally, I think it's gross, but this was universal custom from Europe, to Africa, to Asia all through the antique world. Particularly if the male suitor was very wealthy, fathers would try to lock in those marriages as quickly as possible because it meant political influence & power.

Boomer midwits have no comprehensive basis for understanding this epoch of history. The mindset and moral compass was completely different than it is today.

I don't understand what you mean by "hogwash set up". I'm telling a particular story, and each verse has to lead into the next in order for the story to be chronological and linear. I am constrained by these parameters because of the story I am telling.

If you think my vocabulary is too limited that's fine. If you think that a different format would suit the story better I'm open to suggestion. I take your critique to be ill formulated so I'll wait until you can properly articulate your thoughts and provide textual examples and comparisons before I start taking your opinion seriously.

Really no literature about it, just brief anecdotes. Read up on the Bronze Age Collapse if you're interested. Very likely that whatever caused the Bronze Age Collapsed triggered the Greek Dark Ages as well.

Don't forget about the gods. Without polytheism there is no Platonism. Simple as.
