Follow the ideal reading order on this page, you can skip Cordelia's 2 books at the beginning and jump directly into Miles' first book (Warriors Apprentice) if you want. They're worth reading though even if they're different from the Miles books.

fug off newfag. Poppy War has been trashed around here by a number of people who've read it, including me.

What the fuck is there even to like, the first half is essentially off the shelf generic, bang average magic school crap and the second half takes a hard 90 turn into grim derp territory without any warning. Wow how original, Magic School AND Grim Derp in one book? Hold all the awards!

There's like 10 pages of describing the horrors of war
>mhmm, war bad, ok?
which sends retards like you into rapture with the brutality of the depiction and then we move onto the fem MC eye fucking her mysterious, cool, handsome crush at every opportunity for the reminder of the book. And of course then there's a love triangle forming, what trashy YA romance doesn't need one?
>b-but she's so conflicted...

You should hang yourself pronto for not only thinking it's a good book but also for being unable to comprehend why others might not share your shit taste.

The god awful covers definitely played a big role. That said the books are still quite prominent in sf circles even though they never gained any traction in the mainstream.
