Heard so much about how he's a very important classical writer that everyone worth anything must read. I'm doubtful because he's a devout orthodox, and as someone from an orthodox country it strikes me as intensely backward. It's not even an anti-religious stance, I'd be fine with it if they were say protestant, just speaking from experience.
Does he have legitimate value in the 21st century, or is it Russian masturbatory shit about how le power is bad and you should convert to orthodoxy immediately?

Do I miss out if I read the translated versions of his works or should I learn Russian to get the full experience?

I found this character to be rather relatable. It seems anybody who has fallen from grace, living like an outsider to society has a lot to relate to Marmeladov. The modern man should feel disgusted at the mirror that Marmeladov and Raskolnikov holds up to us. How can we cope with how pitiful and cowardly men act? I saw Marmeladov steal to drink. I see many NEETs here "steal" from their parents hard work to live for free. I don't know how to feel about knowing how little honor men have.
