As a Catholic I am baffled at how many Catholics fell for the distributism meme.

It's basically a massive LARP, not economically rigorous, and doesn't even really explain how it plans to "widely distribute" property".

I think a lot of people are ignorant of what liberalism is because so many liberals in the United States at least will call themselves conservative or right wing. These liberals and libertarians are left wing even if they are "classical liberals" as opposed to the progressive liberals of the Democrat party.

Capitalism is the result of a rejection of traditional or right wing thought. Hilaire Belloc argues that it truly began in England with the protestant reformation and Henry VIII's seizure of church land, which he quickly had to hand out to the aristocrats and this essentially resulted in the destruction of the peasant class, the small property owner. It was the point where capital truly began to accumulate into the hands of a smaller and smaller number of people. These things are a consequence of enlightenment philosophy which is liberal or left wing. True right wing thought will be adjacent to some sort of distributism because it is the traditional mode.
