Read the classics but talk about them in real life to as few people as possible.

The importance of reading what we deem "classics" (on this site, it is mostly in reference to the western Canon) isn't simply to have read the classics, but to have provided your mind and soul with the best nutrition possible.

When you expose yourself to greatness, it will eventually rub off on you. The reason why a lot of writing today is so shallow is because fewer people have received a genuine classical liberal arts education.

Your abilities to write well and understand concepts better than your peers may simply be because you're naturally sharper and more in tune with the logos than the average person. You can be happy about your gifts, but don't let yourself become pretentious, because being more intelligent than your average Joe isn't much of an accomplishment.

Figure out what it is you'd like to do and then develop a plan to get yourself there. You may not need to learn a bunch of ancient language and immerse yourself in the entire western Canon to get there. However, you'll eventually realize that life is too short to spend your time immersing yourself in anything other than the best humanity has to offer.

You need to be in control of your emotions, not vice versa.

However, stoicism in its extreme form states that you should react to the death of a child the same way you would react to an arbitrary, mundane event. This is both autistic and life denying, but could be useful for an individual who otherwise would be completely wrecked by such an event for a long time. This philosophy also originated during a time when these tragic events happened with much more frequency.

Find the golden mean with everything. Human emotions exist for a reason. If you completely deny them, you will stunt your spiritual development.

Write while listening to Death Grips, think of yourself as the demiurge, embrace the Dionysian, things like that.
