>trilogies where the last book is the best
>the 3rd book is the last
>trilogies where the 3rd book is the best
>the trilogy is actually a single book
By that twisted logic, I'll have to go with The Sword of the Lictor. One of my favorite plotless novels.

>the party scene with Cyriaca and her tale
>adventures with lil' Severian
>the village of the magicians
>the tale of the boy called Frog
>the awakening of Typhon
>Severian being drugged with 'shrooms
>meeting the cacogens in the Castle on the Lake
Not to mention the FUCKING alzabo!

Is there any novel that matches the style and quality of storytelling found in BotNS?

The main character (and by extension, the reader) doesn't know who is the good guy or the bad guy, but just fucks and stumbles his way through the entire plot.

How would you cast a movie adaptation of The book of the new sun ?
Assuming you would have an unlimited budget.

Would you watch my BoTNS film adaptation? I suspect that one of the toughest hurdles in adapting this book is the unreliable narrator leading to an ambiguity over certain events being factual or not. I have a solution. There was a movie from a few years ago called 'Hardcore Henry' I will post a link below, the gist of it is that it is all shot POV from the perspective of the hero as he does many cool stunts. An adaptation of BoTNS could be shot similarly from the POV of a stuntman playing Severian and each scene could be shot multiple times with minor or major variations resulting in four different versions any scene. The film itself will play all the scene variations simultaneously in a four way split screen. This splits screen means that the film will require multiple reviewing to pick up on all the details and thus simulating the experience of the books themselves.

What do you think, could it work?

How the hell am I supposed to describe the book of the new sun to someone?

Can we talk lit bros?

I just finished Citadel and my mind is spinning a bit.

1. Severian as mega-chad?
2. He totally fucked his grandma, right?
3. Why does he dissolve the torturer's guild? Redemption arc?
4. I don't really re-read books (too many on my shelf), but this series seems like multiple reads would be really enjoyable. Severian essentially tells you to near the end of Citadel. Thoughts?
5. Great genre fiction, or actual literature? I'm leaning towards somewhere in the middle. I loved the world building and mystery, but it seems like GW couldn't coherently get a great point across, although I could have missed it and probably need to think on it more.
6. Thoughts on the sequels? I'm definitely going to read UotNS but will probably take a break to read Harry Potter.

>somehow a master swordsman who always does his executions with total perfection
>wins the respect of entire sailor crews by his total badass handling of a huge sword
>at one point breaks both femurs of a women during an execution by hitting her with the flat of the blade (massive swords top out at around 9lbs only and there is no way youre going to break BOTH femurs with the big wide floppy side of a blade)

So, in an honest opinion, how is the Book of the New Sun series? I got them a couple days ago not knowing what to expect.

I've never read Gene Wolfe before if that adds any context.
