I'm buying the Cassell's latin dictionary but I'm wondering if you think buying used dictionary is ok? It says good condition but idk if the spines of these are usually fucked up.
Also getting Familia Romana.
I don't think I'm going to to the Dowling method but I'll try to memorise and write out the paradigms as I encounter them in Familia Romana

It was a lover and his lass,
With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonino,
That o’er the green cornfield did pass,
In springtime, the only pretty ring time,
When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding;
Sweet lovers love the spring.

Between the acres of the rye,
With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonino,
Those pretty country folks would lie,
In springtime, the only pretty ring time,
When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding;
Sweet lovers love the spring.

This carol they began that hour,
With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonino,
How that a life was but a flower
In springtime, the only pretty ring time,
When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding;
Sweet lovers love the spring.

And therefore take the present time,
With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonino,
For love is crownèd with the prime
In springtime, the only pretty ring time,
When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding;
Sweet lovers love the spring.

I read Genesis and I liked it.

Some thoughts (on the first few chapters)
re: Adam and Eve and their fruit eating
>they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
This was a chilling scene... what does God look like? I pictured Jesus. Adam and Eve are terrified of what he'll do. He's not omniscient, you can hide behind things and he won't see you.
re: punished snake
>upon thy belly shalt thou go
Did the snake have legs before? Was he some kind of lizard man? He spoke after all... English I presume.
re: Cain and Abel's offerings
>Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering. But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect.
why does God, who I assume is still walking and in man-form, value animal sacrifice over fruit? Les dieux ont soif!
>There were giants in the earth in those days
BASED
>it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
The flood scene was kino af, and I very much enjoy the passionate God with human characteristics, who can get mad and even regret decisions
then, after the flood
>Noah builded an altar unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake
See... God loves the sweet aroma of fried chicken. Veganfags BTFO.
>Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father
Little details like this are what really make me appreciate the book. You're dealing with real people with their feet in the soil, doing dumb human shit like getting drunk buttnaked. And you can imagine just how sweltering the heat was and how nice it must've felt to get buzzed in a cool tent with your buttcheeks out.

Unlike western languages the Chinese use little pictures to represent words and ideas. Ezra Pound wrote a book about this. For example the Chinese word for /litizen/ is made up of two components, on the left hand side is the symbol for the onions bean and the right is an open, elongated mouth. There is no spoken Chinese language, instead there are tens of thousands of mutually incomprehensible dialects, in order to communicate the Chinese scream at each other and draw little pictograms in the air with their finger before being killed by falling masonry, disintegrating sidewalks, collapsing styrofoam bridges and man-eating escalators.

I want to read Chinese books that are available in both English and Chinese for cross-referencing or better yet in bilingual editions. What is the best literature from China excluding Da Fo' Crassic Nawvers, Confucius, Obama's fave sci fi trilogy and the Collected Speeches of Zi Jingping, as well as books about the language.
