>Joe Malik suddenly began laughing. “I’ve got it,” he cried, “I’ve got it!”
>“What have you got?” Hagbard asked tensely, concerned with Leviathan.
>“We’re in a book!”
>“What do you mean?”
>“Come off it, Hagbard. You can’t kid me, and you certainly won’t fool the reader at this point. He knows damn well we’re in a book.”
>Joe laughed again. “That’s why Miss Portinari’s explanation of the Tarot deck just slipped by with a half-hour seeming to vanish. The author didn’t want to break the narrative there.”
>“What the fuck’s he talking about?” Harry Coin asked.
>“Don’t you see?” Joe cried. “Look at that thing out there. A gigantic sea monster. Worse yet, a gigantic sea monster that talks. It’s an intentional high-camp ending. Or maybe intentional low camp, I don’t know. But that’s the whole answer. We’re in a book!”

We've all heard of a simulation theory, right? But who said it had to be something like the Matrix? Anons, what if we were all just characters in someone's book?

What is the world to describe the feeling european folklore lit brings to me? You know, like The Hobbit or Moomin
This sense of vastness and calmness but a tingle of adventure in the air. Very few things give this feeling and most are sacandinavian inspired.

Art is work.
A cup of tea, a painting, a footstool, growing vegetables, reciting poetry.
The object is to live as a human, which is subjective.

Is the Brave New World society utopia or dystopia? I mean, from John's point of view it's dystopia, but is there an alternative in what is society's final form or is it unavoidable to be born and to die in the same tightly connected globalist society? Assuming there won't be wars and we don't destroy our planet.
Right now we spend our time in very mundane way, mostly seeking satisfaction from our work and improving society (you do jobs, which puts the world "in order" and moves it more towards better connection). What is the final goal of life, when there won't be need for further advancement? When we reach equilibrium in everything. Is it offspring? Is it spending our lives on artificial tasks that give use satisfaction (there still will be service jobs in utopia)? Is it hedonism? Could we handle living in such society sober? Maybe we will never stop advancing?
Also, would it be wrong for such society to exist? I mean it'd be kind of pointless stagnation, but is it wrong to spend your entire life in comfortable environment and a "bubble" compared to animal life?

He is a symbolic character meant to deliver a lesson, so yes in a way. He’s supposed to show what strict individualism gets you. Is I not realistic enough in this? I think Ayn Rand’s individualists fail harder.
I read one book three separate times when I was younger and it was pure schlock, so don’t worry about it

Of course. Your love is the only love you ever feel.
Demonstrations of love are nice to experience, but who doesn’t get that from their mother?
If you’re just talking about sex, that’s something else entirely. That experience has quite a variety.
