Wasn't it rather so that, in the book, Marine le Pen actually got a lot of votes and her party should have become part of the government? iirc the established parties squirmed in horror and did everything to deny le Pen access to power and thus started coalitioning with that moderate Muslim party. In other words, there was still strong resistance in the population, but they never got a say in forming the new government. I read the book right when it came out so memory might not serve me fully. But yeah in any case a moderate Muslim party that would shift European focus and weight to the Mediterranean(including North Africa) really doesn't sound absurd anymore.
