Fiction is for women.

Are there fiction books one should read besides non-fiction? I can't help but to feel that I'm wasting time reading fiction whereas I could be reading Spinoza, Leibniz and Wittgenstein.

Because in my mind I thought I was missing something. Why is there so much discussion on literature when philosophy is clearly the more useful and pleasurable? In every way conceivable it exceeds literature, it stimulates the mind more, engender into our spirits curiosity and intellectual interests, opens up new fields and ideas etc. and while literature has its merits, it does not come close to philosophy. I think a mistake of mine was to compare between them in the first place, it is like oranges and apples. One besides giving out much more knowledge, ennobles the mind, but on the other hand, literature is the creative expression by which writers can put out their ideas and creativity etc. but we all know deep down non-fiction beats all.

There are countless things that only philosophy can answer but that science can.

I think what you meant to say was that there's nothing more in philosophy to discover, it's sort of run into a dead end as of this century, while science still has a long way to go.

I love music. Music is the highest expression of art. It can allow a man to reach sublime levels of ecstasy and feelings that no poet can ever aspire towards. Music is true art, but it doesn't make you waste much time like most fiction does. You get pleasure from the get-go. Look, it's not that all fiction is worthless, it's just that considering the amount of philosophy around and wisdom to be learned, there simply isn't enough time to delve too deep into fiction. There isn't even enough time for philosophy!

Reading fiction books is no better than playing videogames. If you like it, fine. But it is poison for the soul.
