>Spengler's detractors are never able to point and say "Here is a major flaw", only "this minor detail is incorrect".

Not him, but I feel like the idea is tied to Cold War, and to the central idea of pic related.

The Cold War is *THE* setting for a war fought over ideas. Censorship, secret police, assassination, thoughtcrime, the urgent feeling that a single idea can end a life or end the world. The concerns of minor nations are largely the concerns of their parent superpower. If you're going to have a third, fourth, fifth, etc., then there's no utility in setting it during the Cold War. May as well take place in the present day.

Next, the USA and USSR were historically Christian nations, but we find both forgetful of their past, and it's not clear which is better off spiritually. Communism is a monster, but the church often thrives under explicit persecution, whereas in the United States, the church squandered its freedom and embraced liberalism.

The USA and USSR parallel the Sadducees and the Pharisees. Ironically, the very ones who constantly invoked their father Abraham cursed and crucified the Son of David. In the same way, the two superpowers reject the Christ again. The Jews said "His blood be on us and on our children!", and in spite of their godly heritage, the two superpowers came to do the same.

While Christ's own hometown tried to throw Him off a cliff, He instead chose to open the eyes of the gentiles. With this in mind, a twist for the final chapter:
>After the two superpowers reject the Christ, it's revealed that there's a third author in a small country that has never known Christ, and the book is a breath of fresh air to this country.
