Nonsense; it just happened to be the last 'great American newspaper comic' and hence the one most of us remember. Strips from the 20th century that surpass C&H in literary quality include Krazy Kat, Little Orphan Annie, Gasoline Alley, Pogo.

Not that anon but I just took a picture of this blurb I read for the first time over fifteen years ago in my 10th anniversary collection. Still haven't gotten around to checking out Krazy Kat myself.
