What is the central theme of this book? Is it more about death or order?

What does it mean that the best novel of postwar fiction takes place in the 19th century?

It is time (again)
>was the kid a pedo
>what happened to the expriest
>did the judge kill/rape the kid
>did the judge kill/rape the bear girl?
>did the kid kill the girl?

I think the judge is an otherworldly demon 'attracted' to the kid because of the things the kid fails to do that the judge expects of him (letting the judge live for example).

At the end I think the judge was in the outhouse raping or butchering the bear girl, explaining his nakedness. I think the meeting with the kid in the outhouse is supernatural and the kid is embraced by the judge and is consumed by his terrible flesh, merging the two together.

The end with the judge dancing is us seeing into the kids mind now possessed by the demon
