Good books about coming from a state of sin to faith/salvation/ redemption. As I’ve been exploring where I stand in faith, mysticism and spirituality I feel the weight of my past sins beers heavy upon me. My biggest vice is lust

Out of English, German, and Russian, which language should I read it in? And which version?

Has anyone here read Carlyle's lectures on Hero-Worship? I think his six archetypes of Divinity, Prophet, Poet, Priest, Man of Letters, and King are more apt for the detection of great men. It's also very cool that Christ more or less fits all six of these, so he was the greatest man.

With all of that behind him now, he turned again to face the ocean. Looking out on a horizon shrouded by a cloud layer, he thought it was impossible to tell where the sea ended and the sky began. They were both the exact same mournful grey, a probable confirmation of the nor'easter he heard circulating down at the docks. He thought of weather. How unpredictable it still was. He looked down at his feet to watch the waves recede, leaving jagged little rivulets in the sand, and took comfort that he could find no order to their paths either.

>The fact that you think that "Good", and "Evil", are vague terms...
Their definitions do not matter. I was simply stating an observation. I had assumed your answer would have (emphasis on would, as you "choose" to do otherwise) fallen in line with what was offered at the conclusion of Job (i.e., fuck off, don't questions God's will).

>betrays your inability to discern between free will, and free election/choice.
Your inability to accurately articulate why free election isn't just some variant of soft determinism betrays your understanding (or lack their of) of the topic. While I agree some of the burden lies on my shoulder, some of it rests on your's as well.

>God's finalistic plan/s are always fulfilled through His grace, regardless of mediate potential for free election/choice.
This seems to be the line of thinking, hence my confusion.

>proto-stoicism
As kino as Ecclesiastes (and Job to an extent), reading it isn't going to help OP if he doesn't already have faith in God, nor is it going to result in some divine revelation. It's simply going to reaffirm already existing beliefs (i.e., life is vapor).

You should read it regardless, but don't expect any miracle cures.

So when are we getting the religion board? With the increase in Christian related posting (and other religions) I think a separate board should be created dedicated towards the discussion of religion. That way /lit/ will not have to contain 15 threads about the Bible.

Books for fighting back the urge to kill yourself at the despair of living in an age of such rampant degeneracy and desperate hedonism that all purity and spiritual happiness is not merely destroyed, but artificially replaced with a perverted virtuosity that entails nothing other than self-destruction and the utter eradication of innocence?

Why is time running out? Are you ill?

Either way, you shouldn't worry about finding some perfect path. If you cultivate your soul and mind properly, any path can theoretically lead to the highest of spiritual unions with God. See for example, the guilds of middle ages, the military orders, the mendicant orders, monastic communities, lay fraternities, etc. all throughout the ages all producing many noble men, even though they are so diverse in subject matter. All paths lead to God at the end of the day, if taken long enough.

To add to this guy's post, read older literature on it and try not to be so skeptical. Might be crude but it's very inspirational. The book "Science Discovers the Physiological Value of Continence" really helped my efforts here. I suggest getting a physical copy of it. Read the morning after a relapse.

Here is some of it:

>An opinion has gained ground in modern times, not only among the general public, but also among physicians, that the belief in the physiological value of continence belongs to the dark ages of religious superstitions and scientific ignorance, and is incompatible with physiological knowledge. Certain pseudosexologists, have exploited this idea to their commercial advantage and have created in the public mind a phobia in regards to continence, which is regarded as a cause of nervous and mental diseases and a positive health danger. On the basis of this belief, physicians and psychoanalysts have looked on continence for the cause of the nervous ailments of youth and have advised young men to visit prostitutes and risk venereal infection as a lesser evil than the assumed hazards of abstinence.
[...]
>A careful reading should, however, convince any open-minded reader that the above view is false, and that continence per se can never do harm, but is always beneficial; and that when trouble occurs in an individual not practicing normal sex relations, the fault is not continence but some vicarious means of sex expression, excessive nocturnal emissions, etc. In view of the richness of the semen in lecithin, cholesterol, phosphorus and other constituents of nervous and brain tissue it is clear that it is incontinence, or loss of these valuable nerve- nourishing substances which, by promoting undernutrition, is responsible for disturbed functioning of the nervous system and brain, and never true continence, contrary to the unscientific views of the psychoanalysts.
[...]
>We have seen that the internal secretions of the sex glands stand at the basis of the individual's physical and mental vitality and that sex hormones are present in the external as well as in the internal secretions of the gonads. Many of the effects attributed to such hormones, as we have seen, are due to the physiological effect of resorbed semen. Conservation of semen means conservation of sex hormones and increased vigor, while loss of semen means loss of hormones and diminished vitality; also chronic deficiency of such hormones leads to the symptoms of senility, which Voronoff and Steinach strove to overcome by increasing the amount of sex hormones in the blood.

Good luck to the original guy. This is real demon to beat and requires effort but it's worth it. It feels so free when you're not a slave to it any more.

i feel ya. Every week it feels like mass gets a little more protestanty in addition to the core freemasonry and rampant materialism. I stayed in a small town in Italy for a month and being surrounded, almost at all times, by beautiful icons, paintings, church bells ringing, and festivals made me miss a tradition I never even knew I had before.
I mean I don't know how strong the faith is in Italy overall, but being part of the culture and and tradition really makes me fell like a foreigner in my own country now.
