Are there any great books about realizing you're not so important? Not from a self-effacing perspective, more like a freeing notion that nothing you do is ever really THAT serious and it's okay to live through life as a humble, hardworking but ultimately basic bloke.
I guess Stoner would be a good example.

If I take a rock, and put it next to another rock, that's one rock and now two. Two more rocks and there's four. Get enough, and you're doing times tables. Seems empirical.

To begin with, evil has no positive existence of it's own. Evil only "exists" in that it is a failure to attain good, rather than some equal and opposite force to good. Just as cold is an absence of heat, evil is an absence of good that arises because of the imperfect nature of man. Man brings evil into existence when he fails to live up to the highest good. Suffering in itself carries no moral condition. Destructive tornadoes and diseases, for example, are existing neutral conditions of life. Because the first man chose death through original sin, his descendants have been left to pay the price.

Tl;dr: The existence of evil and suffering are separate entities and do not disprove the existence of God.
