I didn't get it. What was the message?

I was especially confused about Slothrop going down the toilet. What did that signify

It just seemed like a bunch of random shit happening but I'm sure there's something deeper than that since /lit/ likes it so much.

Hello fellows, I am Russian and I've started reading Gravity's Rainbow. Could you help me understand this phrase from page 4: "last crystallizations of all the city had denied". The book is really hard for me... I am using Pynchon Wiki and different dictionaries, but I couldn't find the right way to interpret this phrase. That's why I am asking here.

The only Pynchon book I own rn is IV. There are multiple available editions of his other works, should I avoid any specific ones? e. g. is that cheap turquoise edition of CL49 fine?

What exactly is this book about? Every time I am trying to read it, I have to put it down because the prose is too terse. Can someone give a tldr?

Pic related could only be adapted as either a cartoon or a live-action movie made forty years ago.

Pa--ra--nooooiiiia, Pa-ra-noia!
Ain't it grand ta see, that good-time face, again!
Pa-ra-noi-ya, boy oh boy, yer
Just a bit of you-know-what
From way back when!
Even Goya, couldn't draw ya,
Not the way you looked, just kicking' in that door--
Call a lawyer, Paranoia,
Lemme will my ass to you, for-ever-more!

have always loved pictured, bit of a cartoony vibe from the light blue font, and the cartoony feel is also present while reading it.
>>13450985
I like that it kept a color at least similar to that of the first edition, which meant to have the color of the greek flag
