In "On Schopenhauer as Educator" Nietzsche explicitly says 1 of 3 reasons that Schopenhauer was inevitably sad was that he was lonely. Actually lonely. Nietzsche goes on to describe what true loneliness is like--as you'd expect, it's having NOBODY. The other two reasons are because 1) he (schopenhauer) was ever on the cusp of genius and thinking about it, and 2) he played too much of the Platonic game back and forth.

>>11044613
No, but you are very close. Kant or Plato has to replace Stirner.

fuck it's a weird and great feeling loving and defending Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, and even Weininger while being in a relationship with a girl that is sweet but doesn't read and really resembles Rosalind. (only ever of course bringing it up with about once or twice a week by saying, oh, that philosopher by the way thought this, what do you think).

THIS THREAD WILL DIE AND NOT ACT AS A MARTYR FOR ALL /LIT/ DISCUSSION THREADS AND ANY BOOK DISCUSSION GATHERING FOR THAT MATTER IF THIS POST CATCHES NO ONE'S ATTENTION

come on, guys... Let's talk about Els "nether Orbs," or how Mason's "Member, still erect from the posterior Attentions of her youngest Daughter." Lets talk about any of the daughters and how Mason interacts with them and Rebekah.

Not just >talking dog >>10957977
but how the L.E.D is kind of how most of Pynchon's men (and Pynchon?) view women, too. They know so much but do not let on, like Esther in V. who literally sees a kids life flash before her eyes when he comes up to her at a party (that life of his by the way is a great example and tackling of an artist living both lives but never being good at one).

Let's talk about whether you see more of mason in yourself or dixon or both. Are you more melancholic? Does Pynchon write for himself?

"Of the three Sisters, she seems devoted most unreflectively to the Possibilities of Love" (62). "I sought distraction in the study of other Lives" (86). "His jealousy nonetheless more peevish than substantial" (87). "when he meets her Gaze, she immediately switches it away with a look of annoyance, not with Mason, it pleases him to fancy, so much as with herself, for happening to be the one caught staring,-- there being scores of good reasons why no further degree of Fascination will develop from this" (111). "'Newton is my Deity,' Dixon rather blurts" (116).

Is Plato right when he says in the laws that homosexuals can't control their desire for pleasure?

Also, when the Athenian says it would be miraculous if there was a drink that could make a man anxious and worried, because then he could train himself not to be... is weed that drink he was wishing about?

While we're on the subject: why is Pynchon never talked about in-depth here or anywhere? Is it because those who actually that are close to getting him don't see the point in talking about him? Or is it simply that they haven't read him? Let's talk about young Nathe being cherubickally neutral to all girls. These girls are attracted to him because he's old in his young age, and the guys don't trust him. Let's talk about Pynchon's women and relationships that, even just by looking at V., Gravity's Rainbow, and Mason & Dixon, show us that there is no right answer when it comes to women and relationships, and that Nietzsche was right when he said that anything's possible when it comes to women.

Let's talk about Nietzsche, too. Is there really a right way to interpret what he's saying, or is THAT the point? Seriously, bros.

While we're at it: how can one read Montaigne and not conclude that he's so fucking good. Nietzsche puts him above fucking Schopenhauer for God's sake. That should tell us enough.

Humor me. I'm on the verge of being a great writer, and I've noticed that while I'm driving or walking in a forest, not only do the best ideas for passages come to me, but the passages themselves come to me and I'm able to channel the words unconsciously onto my phone, nonstop, while I drive/walk.

How can I tap into this at home?

>Original trilogy
Impeccable, unique and beloved classics we all loved as children. Return to time and time again, always taking away something new. Quotable lines, memorable scenes, and authentic sense of beauty and excitement

- Crying of Lot 49
- V.
- Gravity's Rainbow

>Prequel trilogy
rich and compelling technical effects and expanded backstory (sometimes too expanded). In many respects even more ambitious than original trilogy; in others, the emotion and sense of wonder is severely lacking

- Slow Learner
- Vineland
- Mason & Dixon

>Disney Presents the Sequel Trilogy
Almost a parody of former self. Sterilized of experimentation for easier mass consumption; increasingly awkward shoehorning of diversity hires and NYT-approved political opinions. Too much nostalgia, pop culture references, explosions and quips, not enough depth and originality

- Against the Day
- Inherent Vice
- Bleeding Edge

When did you realise Thomas Pynchon doesn't exist? Navy, Boeing, prestigious schools and secret societies, All kinds of Awards, government grants, Old American Money Family, only two or three black and white Photographs-- a true Red, White and Blue spook's spook.

Why is he highly regarded? He sat in a room with his encyclopedia(s) for way too many years, filling page upon page with references from said encycopedia(s), all the while never developing a single character or raising a single novel question.

His charade is up in the internet age.

Also should I start with CoL49 or dive right into GR?
