Hi. I’m new to the website and was wondering if anyone can recommend me some books?

My favorite books are Wittgenstein’s Mistress by Markson, much of Kafka, Nightwood and Ryder by Djuna Barnes, almost all of Beckett, Da Vinci’s Bicycle by Davenport, Ulysses and Finnegans Wake by Joyce, Middle C and The Pederson Kid by Gass, Lautreamont, The Making of Americans by Stein, most of Nathaniel West, At Swim Two-Birds by O’Brien and most of Leonora Carrington to name some

Thank you and have a fine day

Kid #3 on the way and the other 2 are expensive enough as it is. Girlfriend wants us to make it official and get married but I said no. A big fight ensued. Life sucks

I have always been an unashamed book sniffer. I appreciate the different notes and nuances of a book smell. Whenever I’m losing focus reading or getting tired I take a whiff on my book and it rejuvenates me. From my experience, here’s how I rate them

>Penguin
One of my favorite smelling books though they can vary
>Oxford World Classics
Same as Penguin. Strong, manly, rejuvenated smell
>NYRB
No smell. Disappointing
>New Directions
No smell. Disappointing
>Everyman’s Library
Probably the best hardcover smeller
>Modern Library
Cheap smell, not very strong
>Library of America
Pleasant smell but not too pungent, I like my books strong and heady, like smelling salts or cocaine. Something that will wake you up

The first thing I do whenever I get a new book is smell it. I can often tell how the reading experience will be by the smell alone. Used book buyers need not enter. You are smelling mold and hand sweat like a degenerate, the spray paint huffers of book smelling

Any tales or opinions on book smelling?

There are anons here who are zealots to such a degree that it would make Torquemada blush; proselytizing in every thread, and just being zealots in general. Many don’t even go to church, practice the basic tenets like humility, love, tolerance, and compassion. Wonder if they see the hypocrisy in themselves
