I have read most of pic related and about 50 separate articles and essays from him, and still have no idea how he had "a "simple, rude, unsophisticated worldview"

As you appear to be someone else who has read his work, could you critique 'inequalities in Zimbabwe' or 'Cyprus: Hostage to history' or 'The Parthenon Marbles' or his books on Jefferson or Thomas Paine to support your stance?

Christopher was a hugely important journalist and scholar. I always get the feeling that Peter wanted, and was jealous of, the limelight his older brother was starting to have. Taking the opposite stance was a deliberate act on Peter's part. If their was no Christopher to begin with, Peter would be the Regional Manager for some insurance company now.

Barely anyone on /lit/ has read Hitchens. They have him semantically associated with the so-called 'new-atheism', and as it's en vogue to wear this counterfeit-Christian mask, on /lit/ anyway, Hitchens' entire body of work needs to be condensed into a brimmed hat from reddit for convenient dismissal.

I know it's cool for the faux-christian contrarians to hate him because of the epic hat meme, but don't forget he was a fantastic journalist.
