>Humor won’t save you; it doesn’t really do anything at all. You can look at life ironically for years, maybe decades; there are people who seem to go through most of their lives seeing the funny side, but in the end, life always breaks your heart. Doesn’t matter how brave you are, or how reserved, or how much you’ve developed a sense of humor, you still end up with your heart broken. That’s when you stop laughing. In the end there’s just the cold, the silence and the loneliness. In the end there’s only death.
To answer your question: Infinite Jest.
DFW hit it right on the nail, irony kills authenticity. It’s why Marvel quips are so popular, “witty” snark is used to mask how we truly feel because the truth is most people feel sad.
Btw The Comedy isn’t supposed to be a comedy, I didn’t laugh even once.
It’s an uncomfortable satire that forces you to acknowledge how disgusting trust-fund manchildren truly are.
The state of the West, you think those disgusting fucks deserve their wealth?
Gimme a break.

I'm getting baited so fucking hard. I can not fucking understand how Inifinite Jest can filter you. The whole endlessly dense footnotes are obviously just typecasting overly socialized academics, in exactly the same manner as the lack of punctuation is used for the tweaked out methheads. The whole Eschaton chapter is just making fun of nerds liking overly complex theoretical constructions. Reading the million tiny subplots and corresponding writing style changes captures the wild variety of the cast of characters is a joy. It's playful, it's fun.

The only reason you think it's some intellect signalling is because you're awaking from a comatose state that can be best summarized as a decade old bejeweled and masturbation binge. You regard anything more intellectually challenging than a video game review a mountain to conquer, namedropping philosophers like a beta male namedrops the slampigs he fucked. Just like this loser doesn't understand that people engage in sexual activity for anything else than bragging rights, you don't understand how anybody could actually enjoy intellectual engagement without bragging rights. I commend you for trying to crawl out of the slimy mud pit that is your life, but please refrain from shouting your inane opinions while you're still covered in its shit.

This is the first and last time I'm going to reply to you. You are the worst trip fag in the history of 4chan. Every thread you touch withers and dies. You never add substance to the topic discussed. Every post has this smug aura of self importance to it, "look everybody this is MY opinion", which probably is why you have no friends IRL. At a nice boring, cozy, house party I am sure the conversation dies after every remark you make. Every time you try to bring up Stirner in an unrelated discussion everybody sighs and tries to pretend they didn't hear you.

For the first time in my 10 years on 4chan I'm gonna look up how the filter function works. I find you worse than that german guy showing his cock asking to be humiliated, worse than eggman, worse than the groomer boasting on /fit/, worse than the perma spergs on /r9k/ and /pol/, worse than the schizos posting on /sci/. You're not even more vile than these creatures, those fundamentally broken humans wherein primordial evil has taken root, who by their honest shouts of rage ask to be healed, cleansed, or at least killed. The hate they garner is not against their persons but the image of evil they present. You dream to be this infamous beast, and revel in the slimy fame. The detest you garner from everybody on the other hand is an inversion of this. You are the 14 year old boy throwing a tantrum, believing his superior intellect to be neglected by his peers. But instead of having this vile personality bubble up from the tar of your gut, hating it more than your surroundings do, you willingly CHOSE to be this way by intellect instead of anima. You managed to kill the primal honest charm of being scum.

I know this post will not harm or change you. I took the time to write this because it is a rare opportunity to directly show your true detest to somebody. Don't bother replying because you're already filtered.

Almost finished with Submission by Houllebec. Book is very entertaining and enjoyable. On the other hand it is also incredibly superficial, simple and at least the translation has prose only acceptable for YA drivel, maybe worse. If this was self-published on Amazon it would be dismissed as loner bed room fiction. The only ideas are a marginal understanding of life on the fringes, fascism and religion. Unironically this board gives a much deeper insight in these issues.

Is Houllebec only famous because he manages to remove the edge and magnetic attraction of reactionaries by writing badly, thereby making it acceptable for normies?

What to do if you're like a 3/10 though? People will say

>but loads of ugly guys have gfs/can get women

But even these ugly guys have some attractive feature even if it's just something like height, i have all the unattractive traits bound into one body.

>live in a small town
>no social connections so can't meet women that way

>The despair comes from saying good-bye to a civilization, however ancient. But in the end the Koran turns out to be much better than I thought, now that I’ve reread it—or rather, read it. The most obvious conclusion is that the jihadists are bad Muslims. Obviously, as with all religious texts, there is room for interpretation, but an honest reading will conclude that a holy war of aggression is not generally sanctioned, prayer alone is valid. So you might say I’ve changed my opinion. That’s why I don’t feel that I’m writing out of fear. I feel, rather, that we can make arrangements. The feminists will not be able to, if we’re being completely honest. But I and lots of other people will.
Houellebecq chooses Islam over feminism.

Roasties BTFO.

Neither agreeing nor disagreeing with his thoughts, I've found his work to be very interesting as he's a contemporary writer addressing modern-day topics, various types of existentialistic philosophy and his prose.

I've read most of his books. I don't get why he claims that Islam is the dumbest religion ever created. His counterculture views and anti '68-generation-stance all seem to be solved by Islam. He writes so much about how the West has decayed since the 60's, how women are sluts, and a lot of Nietzschean philosophy is part of how he sees the world, so why is he so anti-Islamic?

Is he just a misanthrope that hates everything? Not a Muslim btw, but I find his conclusions strange.

But besides all this, I love the themes he explores, and I'll sound like a pleb, but so-called classics which are loved here, are hard to get into, as their setting belong in another time and century.

And a final question - any other authors similar to Houellebecq?
