It's the opposite, YA books tend to have the cheaper photoshopped covers in my opinion - objects, minimalism or photographs in my opinion. But then again, that's also encroaching on the adult sff books, for example, Sanderson's books are illustrated by Whelan in some editions, but the alt covers are just a grey fractal smoky mess that is intended to look modern that you can generate in something like Apophysis or another fractal generator in like 60 seconds. Some books, especially the hard scifi ones, are also moving towards heavy use of 3D models that have been vaguely painted over.

Most concept artists want to work in AAA title vidya games or movies rather than draw book titles for peanuts. You'll notice that not only does the cover look generic as a fuck but there's black everywhere so that the artist doesn't need to actually do any painting.
