>if his favorite book is Sun and Steel, RUN away and never look back
Yeah it's those Sun and Steel readers you gotta look out for, they're dangerously heterosexual

Unrelated question, but can I read Runaway Horses before Spring Snow? I live in 3rd world country, and need to order these books from West, sadly didn't realise it's part of the tetralogy, and I've read the big trio outside of it(mask, pavilon, sailor).

I didn't really see it as much of a homo story. It's more about being scared of showing affection and being scared of real love and escaping to fantasy instead, as the main character does just that, which to me was extremely relatable. Also it needs to be said that the book was written when being gay was cool and in Japan obscure, non existent And not defined, unlike today obnoxious faggotry, which is just thirst for attention. It's important to say that the main character never calls himself homosexual.

No idea, seeing as I've not seen the meme-film, but the book was breddy gud.

It's a short and comfy read.

Don't be a faggot.

Seriously though, everything I've heard about the film suggests that it gets the 'Shima wrong in a fundamental way. You can't filter out the post-War Jap element without losing a major part of what makes the book work.

Top-tier taste, friend.

Pic related's 'Temple of the Golden Pavillion' felt unusually similar to Lanark.

>Bildungsroman
>realistic postwar setting
>distrubed protagonist's anxieties about sex, education, family life, deformity

I thought 'Lanark' was fantastic, probably because I know so mant expats of that generation -- the idea of Unthank is what got me started, but Thaw's story is what really endearded the book to me.
I'd be eager to hear any of your thoughts; Gray doesn't get anythere near the attention he deserves on this board.

Is this why Yuki was so overtly masculine?

rare shimmy coming through

Here is a link to his short story Patriotism. I recommend reading it if you haven't. Its about a soldier committing ritual suicide rather than having to fight his friends in a rebellion.
