I'm reading Three Body Problem, it's getting pretty good. What are some other books that are about exploring wild concepts? Like Rendezvous With Rama and 2001 and some short stories by Borges. But not too wild that they feel supernatural, like Ubik and Flow Your Years the Policeman said.

I'm up to page 255 (over half way). BOOOOOORING

Should i continue?

This book has been about 10% sci-fi so far - those bits were decent. But most of the book is driving around, talking to police and fantasy-tier role playing in a computer game. Holy fucking crap what a shit fest.

Will I enjoy this book more if I read up on the real world three body problem before I read the book?

Or is it best to go in blind and learn all about it from the book?

>up to page 64
>nothing has happened yet
>20 different characters, literally with unmemorable names like Dong, Yang, Wang, Ding, Cheng, Shi and Ye (I'm not making this shit up)
>doesn't even introduce the characters. Just says shit like "Then Ding said... Then Dong said".

books suck

Just finished the first book in pic's trilogy. I don't really read sci-fi, only read Dune, and I thought it was enjoyable. Does most sci-fi have limited character development? That was common in this book but the physics was fun and the imagery was vivid.

Just finished the first book in this trilogy. As someone who doesn't read sci-fi, only read Dune, I thought this was an enjoyable read. The characters didn't really have much development but I didn't think that was the point of the book (or maybe even the genre?). The plot was fun and even if the physics weren't realistic, it had some pretty vivid imagery.

What are your thoughts on it?

I thought this book was strong in the beginning when it looked like it would really grapple with the utter hopelessness that falls out of our place in the universe and the associated cosmic horror.

But towards the end it switched focus to more tangible obstacles like Sophons and whatnot, and then sped through a ton of unsatisfying exposition until the end.

What did y'all think?

sffg is The Three Body Problem actually good, or is it just meme?

Will I like it if I generally enjoy Vance, Wolfe, Asimov, Dune, etc.?

Do the sequels get any better? I enjoyed the chapters about the revolution but the alien plot just doesn't excite me at all. The Trisolarans seem basically indistinguishable from humans in their chapters so I don't know how any first contact scenario can be all that interesting.

Beyond that, other fiction that deals specifically with accelerationism and Gnon? Can't think of any at the moment. But there's lots of good sci-fi. If he disliked PKD I'd be very surprised.

Will put this up here too, worth a read for anons into this stuff. Definitely lots of material there to get your noggin' floggin'.
