I remember reading that while Bush was in office Bloom said he was the worst president ever. Something like people are too poor to buy food and they are too poor to buy books. So I think him being silly about presidents was normal and maybe a little more silly with Trump.

Here are my two cents about the earlier Jewish author mess. Strict Jewish families force their children to learn to read at a young age so I believe this has something to do with their tendency to be "successful". If some great authors were not Jewish and were not forced to learn to read the Torah or whatever at a young age, then perhaps they would not be the great authors they became. This has nothing to do with the content of the culture other than the very act of emphasizing reading early. So I think with the wests lazy education culture the only cultures left that really emphasize reading and studying early are the large GDP growing Asian countries and the Jewish people.
