Just finished Infinite Jest. Why the FUCK are all these convergent, central plotlines (like John Wayne and Gately digging up the entertainment) mentioned in passing ONCE in the entire 1000 pages in such an oblique and chronically backwards manner? How the fuck am I supposed to make sense of the plot after my first read if you can't filter what is actually important (considering DFW pissed away dozens of pages on characters which never went anywhere, only to later drop central fucking plot developments in some offhand sentence)?

Am I a plot-focussed brainlet? I actually really enjoyed it the entire time I read it desu, but this pisses me off
