Why would I include a SHIA book. It says /lit/ chart, not /x/ chart. Shia chart books already exist (pic related)

There are some good books in picrel, don't read that Rumi translation though. Lantern of the Path is a good starting off point I'd say.

>Any background?
For the genesis of Ismailism itself? I would recommend reading a historical text on early Islam itself, including the genesis of Shi'ism in general. A book for this doesn't come to mind immediately, there's probably something good in picrel. Muhammad Man of Allah is a book I recommend to people who want to get into studying Islam in general, as it's a good introductory text for people that didn't grow up in an Islamic context.

Still plenty of material out there, just /lit/ doesn't seem to be the place to discuss it without particularly biases, shame really

Depends what sect of Shia and how esoteric you want to be. If you wanna broad justifications for Ali's succession, then I recommend Madelung's' The Succession to Muhammad'. If you want an understanding of Twelver (the largest sect) doctrines, then read Haqqul Yaqeen's 'A Compendium Of Twelver Shia Religious Beliefs'

Always found Sufism fascinating, and they tend to be lovely people who simply want to understand the mysteries of God

I am starting this chart, waiting until my commentaries come in to start reading the Quran. I have a pretty good translation (forget what the translator's name is) with footnotes from various commentaries already so I am pretty excited.
I am reading the essential Rumi right now and it is definitely up OP's alley. I am find a lot of parallels between sufism and its striving for union with God and emptiness in Zen, subsequently the Tao of Taoism as well.

Sufi Essays by Seyyed Houssein Nasr is what I started with and I would highly recommend it. This chart may also be of use
