I know there is at least one other Anon reading The Idiot right now. Is anyone else? Want to have a casual chat about part one over the next week? I just got to the part where Rogozhin confronts Ganya at his house while Nastasya is there. I've barely even started but I can already tell this book is going to be great, not that I'm surprised. The way he's already managed to show Myshkins innocent and genuinely good-hearted nature is really amazing. It's funny how everyone he talks to is taken aback by his personality and almost immediately disarmed. The back of the book says 'Dostoyevsky set out to portray a man of pure innocence' so I'm going to be paying particular attention to how he reacts when things inevitably go off the rails.
I read some of the intro in my edition. He mentions how a painting called "Christs Body in the Tomb" (pic rel) was a major influence on the themes of this book. So I imagine the Prince is going to meet a very unglamorous end unfortunately. Anyway, let talk about it. How hot is Nastasya exactly? or the sisters? If your not reading anything rn, why don't you join us?

>The Idiot is a novel by the 19th-century Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky. It was first published serially in the journal The Russian Messenger in 1868–69.
>The title is an ironic reference to the central character of the novel, Prince Lev Nikolayevich Myshkin, a young man whose goodness, open-hearted simplicity and guilelessness lead many of the more worldly characters he encounters to mistakenly assume that he lacks intelligence and insight. In the character of Prince Myshkin, Dostoevsky set himself the task of depicting "the positively good and beautiful man."[1] The novel examines the consequences of placing such a singular individual at the centre of the conflicts, desires, passions and egoism of worldly society, both for the man himself and for those with whom he becomes involved.

CHRISTIANITY, WHEN FOLLOWED TO THE LAST WORD, RESULTS IN THE CULTIVATION OF THD HUMAN FAILURE.

FOR WHAT WAS JESUS OTHER THAN A GURU CARPENTER WHO DIED PITIFULLY UNDER THE VIRILE HANDS OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE.

BELIEF IS A POOR SUBSITUTE FOR KNOWLEDGE.

FAITH IS A POOR SUBSITUTE FOR GNOSIS.

This book is beautiful. Are there any good adaptations? It breaks my heart that Tarkovsky was never able to make a film.

Does /lit/ have any interest in theology?

I've been studying theology for 4 years now. Lately I've been mostly into philosophical theology of the 14th century.

Picture kind of related. It's Jesus after crucifixion.
