I'm sick of the way Hegel is represented as le spooky occult wizard of unintelligible magic philosophy words or whatever the fuck. No other philosopher gets this treatment and it makes discussing him difficult on this board as most posters only know him through memes like pic related and/or got filtered by the Preface and thus see him as an incomprehensible writer they can pretend to understand to sound like a Smart Person or mock for writing nonsense. There's decent discussion here and there but in between is a sea of unending braindead hurr durr the hegelian dialectic created commies and nazis bro no one understands like duuuude the dialectic is like nothing is even true anymore man - or, just as annoyingly, threads consisting of a random quote with zero original thought or attempts at starting a discussion put into it, just vomiting random paragraphs of Hegel into the catalog hoping for someone to wander in and jerk the OP off for being so classy and wise as to quote Hegel or some shit. It all pisses me off.

Can one come to harm through studying philosophy?
Mystical, initiatic traditions often speak of the hazards of embarking on their paths lightly and of the assaults from outside forces one will face on their way - demons, spirits, temptations, the lures of samsara keeping one attached. There are consequences to doing things halfway, to seeing the truth but not seizing it or turning one's back on it. In Christianity it is often worse to sin after knowing the truth than to sin in ignorance. Some Buddhists write about a failed state of enlightenment, and I recall reading about the case of modern Western practitioners trapping themselves in a state halfway between meditation and normalcy, leaving them mentally impaired for life. In alchemy and hermeticism this is also reflected, whether with warnings against leaving a ritual incomplete or outright mention of demonic forces entering the soul.
"Rational" philosophy, however, rarely comes with such warnings attached, but does that mean studying it is without risk? Could one come to harm by failing to understand, say, Hegel's phenomenological project at a critical point, or understanding it in full but thereby becoming aware of things which one was not prepared for?
