In the final days of WW2, a cunning SS man attempts to 'rescue' a jew in order to curry favor with the western allies and avoid prosecution. While not an ardent Nazi, the SS man is a moral vacuum and casually antisemitic. During his journey west by motorcycle (with his jewish prisoner in the sidecar) he is confronted by the quiet dignity and moral teaching of the man, as well as the collapse of the regime he served. Meanwhile, the Jewish man must ponder whether it is better to be a pawn in his captor's escape (but save himself in the process) or risk death but deny the SS man his cover as a humanitarian and 'good German'
