I understand what you're saying, but I feel like I can still be disciplined and focused, I'm still young, with time I'll naturally become more industrious, almost everyone does, but I have no intentions of becoming disciplined to spend my days in an office pushing code, I want discipline to accomplish things I genuinely want to do and am putting off either due to fear of failure or genuine lack of focus. With age and more education I expect to learn this skills eventually. I'll never be a Jocko Willink, Good. I don't want to be like that, I just want some sense of control. PS: I think pic related is what happens when someone like us (way smarter than me at least) reluctantly joins the system, it's not all so bad.
